Why Do We Have Ads?

It may seem silly that we have ads on our site.

We rant about the horrors of materialism, yet advertise useless products.

The answer is rooted in our philosophy.

In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul talks about his rights as an apostle.

The gist is that it would be perfectly reasonable for Paul to receive money from churches in order to continue his ministry.  Ministry was his full time job.

But Paul didn’t take the money, instead he chose to work for his own living.  He often stopped to work his trade as a tent-maker during his travels.

We’re not apostles by any means.  But the principle is similar.

A major theme behind our lifestyle is that we use less of the world’s resources so that others can have more.

We could ask for donations and probably get them.  But that would defeat the purpose.

We have a giant billboard of a website, why not put the space to good use?  This is, after all, our full-time job.

There’s perfectly good money just floating around as advertisements out there.  We need to eat, and we’d rather do that on our own dime so that all of our dimes, yours and mine, can go towards love.

God has blessed us with talents.  Hopefully those talents go into this website.

Through God’s blessing, we can eat by doing what we love.
